In 2018, with no background in engineering or manufacturing, Cheryl Teh made a bold decision: to leave behind her comfort zone in accounting and finance, and step into the highly technical semiconductor industry. Just seven years later, she has built YPS Technology Sdn Bhd into a thriving manufacturing and service provider with nearly 80 employees. Today, she is honored with the 13th Golden Phoenix Awards - Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards 2025.

Cheryl’s entrepreneurial journey began during her MBA studies, when encouragement from her husband gave her the courage to venture into a completely unfamiliar field. Starting with only two technicians, she embraced humility and worked side by side with her team, learning everything from mechanical assembly to wiring. Guided by her father’s advice that “a boss must understand what employees do,” Cheryl gradually earned both technical mastery and the respect of her staff. This hands-on approach allowed her to speak the same language with customers and provide practical, reliable solutions.

As YPS Technology grew, it expanded from mechanical and electrical assembly into wire harness manufacturing and sheet metal fabrication. What differentiates the company is its holistic, one-stop service model: from raw material purchasing to assembly, supported by professional consultation that helps clients optimize production. Under Cheryl’s leadership, the company has become known not just as a supplier, but as a trusted partner for businesses seeking sustainable solutions.

Cheryl’s philosophy of leadership centers on openness, optimism, and emotional discipline. She believes that harshness never solves problems; instead, a leader must stay calm, listen deeply, and balance the voices of customers, suppliers, and employees. This belief became especially vital when she experienced betrayal from a business partner—a painful moment that could have shaken her resolve. Instead, she turned the disappointment into resilience, reminding herself: “I cannot control others, but I can control my focus.”
